Leading change when your team is tired of change

The answer isn't more urgency — it's clarity, honesty and small wins.

The answer isn't more urgency — it's clarity, honesty and small wins. After years of restructures, load-shedding schedules and hybrid-work experiments, many South African teams are simply tired.

Start by naming what is not changing. People can absorb a surprising amount of change when they know which parts of their working life are stable.

Be honest about what you don't know. 'We haven't decided yet, and I'll tell you by the 15th' builds more trust than a confident answer that turns out to be wrong.

Then celebrate small, real progress — the first week the new system worked, the first customer who noticed. Momentum is built from evidence, not announcements.
