A talk that inspires but changes nothing is just entertainment.
A talk that inspires but changes nothing is just entertainment. The real test of a keynote is what people do on the Tuesday after the conference.
Build the follow-through into the session itself. Before people leave, ask them to write one specific behaviour they will try in the next seven days, and to tell the person next to them. Public commitments are kept far more often than private ones.
Give managers a simple conversation guide so they can pick the ideas up in their next team meeting. A one-page sheet with three questions does more than a forty-slide recap pack that nobody opens.
Then measure something small. One client tracked how many managers held a weekly one-on-one in the month after a workshop; the number went from 41% to 78%. That is the kind of applause that matters.
